What's new in Jake: translation, summaries and more

A roundup of Jake's October 2026 updates, from the dashboard and translation styles to summaries, upvote rewards and localisation.

Jake has had a busy couple of weeks. Setting up translation is simpler, conversations can be summarised in your language, and there are new ways to manage your character allowance. Here's a rundown of the updates from 07 October to 22 October 2026.

Easier setup and a new dashboard

The new dashboard brings server settings and translation setups into one place. You can search setups, see their channels and check server usage alongside per-setup statistics. It also works better on mobile, and personal translation settings are grouped together.

Prefer to stay in Discord? Run /quickstart to set up automatic translation in one pop-up. /quickdivert can take an existing setup and send its translations to up to 10 channels, with the option to add source channels too.

Server translation settings now live under /translation, including channels, blacklists, styles, extras and the translator engine. The old /settings and /settings2 commands point you to the new ones. /help has also been redesigned with categories and buttons.

Summarise a conversation in your language

Run /summarize to catch up on a channel, or right-click a message and choose Apps → Summarize From Here. Summaries use the language you set with /your_language.

Free servers get five summaries a day; premium servers get unlimited summaries. Premium servers can also choose the new ChatGPT translation engine with /translation translator, alongside the existing engine options.

Translation styles and tidier conversations

Styles now have names rather than numbers:

  • Default uses Jake's standard presentation.
  • Compact removes the translation embed.
  • Morph posts the translation as the original speaker, in an embed, and is free.
  • Unbranded Morph removes JakeBot branding and is a premium option.

Your selected style now applies throughout Jake, including reaction translations in threads. Morph is also faster, with improved permission checks, attachment handling and webhook cleanup. See the translation guide for the styles and setup options.

For automatic translation, the new Tidy Original Message option deletes the original message and copies its contents into the translation. It does not apply to manual or reaction translations, so consider whether removing the original suits your channel before enabling it.

More control over where translations go

  • Per-setup diversion: Each setup can decide whether to divert untranslated messages. The option is on by default for new setups; existing setups keep the value of the previous server-wide setting.
  • Reaction translations in threads: Flag-reaction translations now appear in a thread on the message by default. You can turn this off under /translation extras disable.
  • Embed translation: An optional extra translates embed titles, descriptions, fields and footers. It is off by default. Rebuilding translated embeds to match the original appearance is still a work in progress.
  • Other bots and webhooks: With Other Bot Translation enabled, Jake can translate messages from other bots and webhooks. With it disabled, those messages and their embeds are not translated.
  • Role and user filters: Allowlists now work when a member matches either an allowed role or an allowed user.

Automatic translations also follow edits to the original message. Links, domains, mentions, emojis, timestamps and slash-command mentions are protected from translation; if an engine drops one, Jake adds it back rather than losing it.

More ways to translate

You can install Jake to your account to use /translate and the right-click apps in DMs and servers that haven't added the bot. The Translate to Somewhere Else app sends a translation to another channel for everyone to see.

The old per-message limits for personal and server translation have been removed. Server admins can still set an optional limit for automatic translation with /translation channels character_limit; the default is 0, meaning no per-message limit. Your overall character allowance still applies.

Upvotes now give consistent bonus characters

Upvote tokens have been replaced. Each upvote on Top.gg or Discord Bot List gives you 1,000 bonus characters, up to 30,000 a month; characters you have already allocated count towards that cap. Use /upvote for the links and your stats.

After an upvote, Jake sends you a DM where you can allocate the characters to one of your servers or keep them for personal translations. Unallocated characters remain available for your personal use. You can also use /upvote allocate in a server or /upvote gift to give bonus characters to another member.

Servers have a shared goal too: every 100,000 characters allocated earns the server an extra 50,000. Check progress and top donors with /upvote goal. Reporting a real bug or suggesting a feature that gets added earns 5,000 characters, and a qualifying referral can earn a one-time bonus when the person you referred buys premium.

Use /translation usage to keep an eye on your allowance. It now offers an upvote and premium tip when you reach 80% or are on course to go over.

Localisation, reliability and smaller fixes

Localisation has started: translation command descriptions, the introduction message, /quickstart and /quickdivert are now localised into 10 languages. This is the beginning of broader localisation, not a complete translation of every command.

Translation engine fallbacks and database connections have been improved to make Jake more reliable. The health page now shows the status of each translation engine and every shard.

A few other changes worth knowing:

  • Jake's welcome message is posted in the server rather than sent as a DM to the person who added it.
  • /enable, /disable and /prefix were removed as slash commands, but remain available as prefix commands.
  • Premium tiers have been simplified; existing tiers are unaffected.
  • Wordclouds are quicker and no longer saved, the gallery has been removed, and a settings crash affecting servers without a blacklist has been fixed.
  • Several crashes in manual translation and the old settings menu have been fixed.

To try the changes, head to the dashboard or run /quickstart in your server. If you need a hand, visit the support server.
