Quick start

Run /quickstart

You need the Manage Server permission. Run /quickstart for a popup form to pick languages and channels in seconds.
Pick your languages

Choose the language people write in and the language you want results in. Pick Any language (auto-detect) if you don't know. Turn on two-way translation for seamless bilingual chat.
Done

Jake needs View Channel and Send Messages in target channels. New messages are translated automatically. Fine-tune everything later with /translation. Or use /quickdivert to divert messages to other channels.

Four ways to translate

Automatic

Set it once and Jake translates every message in the channels you choose. Create setups in seconds with /quickstart or detailed options via /translation channels new.

On demand: `/translate`

Translate a single message into any language, e.g. /translate es Hello everyone. Works as slash command or prefix (j!tr). Also works in DMs and external servers if you install Jake to your account!

React with a flag 🇫🇷

Turn on React to Translate and anyone can react to a message with a country flag to get it translated into that country's language. Enable it with /translation extras enable. Translations are posted in a thread on the message, or in the channel if you turn Reaction Translation in Threads off.

Right-click a message

Open Apps on any message:

To English and To Spanish
To Your Language, set it once with /your_language
Quick Translate, type any language in a pop-up
Translate to somewhere else, send the result to a different channel
Summarize From Here, summarise the chat from that message onwards into your language

Only you see these results. Usable in DMs, group chats, and servers when added to your account!

Choose the subscription that fits how you translate

A premium upgrade can be assigned to either a server or your own Discord account. The features and monthly allowance apply only to the place you assign it.

Server subscription

Assign the upgrade to a server where Jake is invited. It increases that server's monthly translation pool and unlocks its premium translation engines, automatic translation setups and other server-wide features.

Everyone using Jake in that server can benefit. This is the right choice for communities that need automatic translation or want to share a larger allowance.

Personal subscription

In the premium dashboard, keep one of your upgrades on your own account. It raises your limits for right-click Apps translations, DMs, group chats and servers where you use Jake as a Discord User App. You can also use /patreon personal.

Your personal monthly allowance is 50% of the equivalent server tier. It does not add characters to a server's pool or unlock automatic translation for that server.

For right-click Apps translations inside a server, Jake uses your personal allowance first. If it is exhausted, it can use that server's allowance when Jake is installed there. In DMs, group chats and external servers, only your personal allowance applies.

Translation engines

Choose with /translation translator. Different engines support different languages, run /languages to see which languages each one covers.

Engine	Available on	Good for
Microsoft	Everyone (default)	Wide language coverage at no cost.
Google	Any premium tier	A similar option to Microsoft, with slightly faster translations.
DeepL	Any new paid tier	Natural-sounding results for the European languages it supports. Slower.
ChatGPT	Any premium tier	Casual, natural wording that reads like a real person wrote it. Around 90 major languages; others use another engine. Very slow.

Automatic translation setups

A setup is one "from language to language" rule. Make as many as you need.

Where it runs

Up as many channels, categories or forums as you want per setup
Or turn on affects_all_channels and exclude the ones you don't want
Send results to up to 10 different channels instead of replying in place

Who gets translated

Limit a setup to up to as many roles as you need.
Skip messages that contain certain words with word_blacklist
Use auto-detect as the source language when people mix languages

Two-way pairs

Turn on create_pair and Jake builds the reverse setup too (English to Spanish and Spanish to English). Edits can be applied to both at once.

Translate to somewhere else

Use /quickdivert: pick one of your existing setups, add up to 10 extra source channels and up to 10 destination channels.

Each setup has its own Divert untranslated messages option (on by default) that also forwards messages that weren't translated, for full conversation context. Change it with /translation channels edit or in the dashboard.

Filters & extras

Keep translations useful and quiet. Toggle these with /translation extras enable and disable, and see their state with view_options.

Feature	What it does
React to Translate	Translate a message into the language of any flag reacted to it. On by default.
Reaction Translation in Threads	Post flag-reaction translations in a thread on the message instead of the channel. On by default.
Other Bot Translation	Also translate messages sent by other bots and by other webhooks (Jake's own webhooks are always skipped). On by default.
Embed Translation	Also translate the title, description, fields and footer of embeds, including ones sent by other bots. On by default.
Single Word Blocker	Don't translate one-word messages.
Three Word Blocker	Don't translate messages of three words or fewer.
Command Message Blocker	Skip messages that look like bot commands, such as ones starting with `!`, `?` or `/`. On by default.

Links and Discord items stay untouched

Links, bare domains like example.com, mentions, emojis (custom and standard), timestamps and command mentions are never translated, and are ignored when Jake detects a message's language.

Global blacklist

Words or phrases that are never translated when they make up the entire message (like "lol" or "gg"). In the dashboard, enter one entry per line; don't separate entries with commas. A comma on a line is treated as part of that phrase. Manage with /translation blacklist add, remove and list.

Message length limit

Optionally cut off big messages before they are auto translated. Set it with /translation channels character_limit. The default is 0, which means no limit.

Set the look separately for automatic, command and reaction translations with /translation style set (or pick All of them). Use match_styles to copy one to the others. Preview styles on this page.

Default (Embedded)

An embed with the translator's name and avatar.

Compact (embedless)

A compact, single-line format with the translator's name beside the translation.

Translation Morph

A translation posted with your name and avatar, but in an embed with a Jake watermark.

Unbranded Translation Morph (Premium)

A translation posted with your name and avatar, making it look like you sent the translation yourself. This is a premium feature.
